TriMet’s Hop Fastpass – Open Architecture in Fare Payment

June 27, 2019 @ 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm

Portland TriMet has adopted the principle of open architecture to the design of its Hop Fastpass fare payment system.
With open architecture, TriMet was able to connect Hop with adjacent transit systems while maintaining flexibility to deploy new or improved technologies in the future.
The account-based Hop system offers features such as autoloading and fare-capping, which charges fares only to the cost of a daily or monthly pass, at which point subsequent rides are free. The system flexibility enables HOP to keep pace with technological change.
This webinar will focus on the successes and challenges of the program, and what it takes to get an innovative idea started. Resources will be shared to assist others in getting their projects off and running.
