Transit route design in rural areas and small cities is both an art and a science. One thing is evident, however – many rural transit systems are still operating 1990s service. The developments over the last five years tell us it is time to think 2021 and use the combination of proper service design/planning and the appropriate technologies to enhance service, improve ridership and raise the stature of your system. As we come out of the pandemic, it may be a good opportunity to evaluate your transit services and try out potential changes.

This webinar, presented by Ken Hosen of KFH Group, will provide guidance on how to evaluate the appropriate service design for your area and will cover some best practices in service design and planning of fixed (or flex) route design as well as on-demand or microtransit services which can be attractive in small cities.

The webinar will consist of a 60 minute presentation and a 30 minutes question and answer session. Feel free to bring any specific questions you have about your agency’s service planning and route design.
