This presentation introduces an innovative spatiotemporal analytical framework and web-based visualization platform developed by researchers at the University of Utah to assist transit agencies in identifying optimal deployment strategies for a battery-electric bus (BEB) system by using a combination of mathematical programming methods, GIS-based analysis, and multi-objective optimization techniques. The framework allows transit agencies to optimally phase in BEB infrastructure and deploy the BEB system in a way that can minimize the capital and operational cost of the BEB system while maximizing its environmental benefits (i.e., emission reduction).

Demystifying Leadership

“Leadership is about action, not position.” Leadership can be hard to define, as the old saying goes “you know it when you see it.” Is it courage, motivation, ability to influence and persuade? It’s all those things, and more. The good news is – it’s a learnable skill. In this workshop we will meet leaders from all over the world and in your own lives. Then we will examine how you might use this information to motivate and engage your teams, coach and communicate with them, and lead your team to success! This workshop is for both practicing leaders and those who want to learn. Ask yourself: if given the choice, would your team choose you to be their leader? Leaders are the key contributors to the success or failure of an organization, work group or team. While the myth of the “natural leader” is pervasive, the truth is that effective leadership is a discipline that can be learned and continuously improved.

With so many can’t-miss program submissions, we have expanded Roadmap 2021 to three days! Join us from June 14-16 to help create the Roadmap for a clean, efficient, accessible transportation future for all.

Accelerated and widespread electric, smart, and shared mobility adoption requires a diverse and supportive “ecosystem” of industry and community leaders – from utilities and local governments; to vehicle OEMs, charging providers, and technology startups; to public interest groups and drivers. The annual Roadmap Conference brings all of these stakeholders together in a highly interactive format to explore emerging trends, share best practices and lessons learned, and build the road ahead.

Whether you work remotely or not, written communication skills are equally important as communicating verbally. Poorly written documents make a first impression that can’t be taken back and can send the writer’s credibility, and the credibility of the agency or organization, into a nosedive. Fortunately, there are some simple tips and tricks that can make a big impact. This interactive class will focus on the fundamentals of organizing your thoughts and drafting content; writing clearly and concisely; and proofreading.

Participants in this session will learn:

  • Four critical questions to ask before writing the first word
  • When to use active voice vs. passive voice
  • How to check content for readability and accessibility
  • Eight proofreading tips
